Dashain brings no shopping attraction in Kathmandu 18 Oct, Kathmandu

Dashain brings no shopping
attraction in Kathmandu
18 Oct, Kathmandu:
Market places in Kathmandu have seen no
shopping fervor since Dashain – the great
festival of Nepali people – was already round the
corner.
Though there seem people shopping for the main
festival in usually crowded market hubs of
Kathmandu, the popular places such as
Putalisadak, Bagbazaar, Samakhushi, Gongobu
and Lainchaur have no attraction of Dashain
costumers.
Dashain shopping is more visible in Asan,
Indrachowk, Hanumandhoka and Basantapur
where the stuffs necessary for offering worship
to Goddess Durga during the great festival are
available in one stop.
The earthquake-triggered effects are also visible
in the areas. Beside this, the high price rise of
essential goods and India-imposed unannounced
blockade at border points have panicked Nepali
Hindu revelers celebrating Dashain, said Krishna
Rupakheti, who has come to Kathmandu for
Dashain shopping.
“In comparison to previous years, the inflow of
people for festive shopping is quite low”, said
Suman Shrestha, a shopkeeper who has been
selling Dashain worship stuffs in Asan. RSS
